Hospital

There are on-site and distance medical applications of IPTV telemedicine technology. On-site hospital uses include real time viewing of surgeries and procedures as well as direct audio visual communication between patient rooms and nurses stations. Instead of pushing a call button for medication or other needs, and waiting for what can seem like hours, patients can contact the nurse’s station via the Sonata IPTV™ set-top box, and nurses appear on the TV screen in their room for live interaction with the patient. Sonata can also be used for continuous faculty training and for video conferences with other hospitals. The video-on-demand feature provides additional television programming options for patients.

Elderly Care Facilities

The patient room monitoring technology can be used in a similar way in elderly care facilities. An additional component provides pan/tilt/zoom camera features so that nurses can monitor more mobile patients as they move about or in and out of the room, allowing for better patient care with a smaller nursing staff. Critical patients can also be periodically monitored remotely either from a hospital or from a doctor’s office.

Telemedicine

Sonata IPTV™ technology opens up new medical possibilities for small community hospitals, allowing them access to medical care and technology of the larger teaching hospitals. It also connects patients in remote locations to their healthcare providers in other cities, allowing many more patients to remain at home rather than having to move to convalescent homes for care.
